Sunshine in the Rain
The first 3 months of 2023 have been wildly unpredictable! Growing up in California all of my life, our state has been in a perpetual state of drought for as long as I can remember. That's not a good thing, but it is a thing that we've become used to. So booking sessions in January? No problem! That's when we've had some of our best weather. But not this year 🙅♀️
It has rained so much this January through March, which has resulted in numerous rescheduling of session. I've had to reschedule almost all of my sessions for this first quarter of the year, which is wild! All of my couples have been so amazing and understanding of this though. They know I can't control the weather and that Safety is Sexy, so we're always going to do what's safest for us and the community in the area in which we're shooting!
Now let's talk about Katy + Mike's Engagement Session...
We had originally booked for December 11, 2022 and had to postpone four times due to weather. I don't remember the last time the Monterey area has rained this much or for this long! While yes, we need it (duh lol) it was a huge downpour that wasn't just a minor inconvenience, but a huge safety risk to many due to flooding of major roads and highways, fallen trees leaving hundreds if not thousands without power, and mudslides closing off many roads in the Big Sur area. Like I said, Safety is Sexy so we chose to postpone due to our and our neighbors' safety.
So finally, finally, we were able to do their session mid-March. With their wedding at the beginning of April, this was our last attempt at doing an outdoor session before their wedding. If it rained again, we were going to adjust and do a studio session but we all really wanted to do their session outdoors, so we were hoping for the best and we got the best! While the wind was quite aggressive and there was little haze in the sky, we were so excited to see the sun and be able to run around outside and had such a great session. Plus...the wildflowers were in bloom!
Amongst all of the rain, gloomy skies, and destruction from the rain, we were blessed with a gorgeous sunset and we soaked up every single minute of it.
I'm so excited we were able to capture their Engagement Session outdoors along the beautiful Santa Cruz coast!
