In the Bedroom
Whether you're romantic and lovey dovey or goofy and giggly, I want to capture it all. Mik and Matt are mostly the latter, but I got to capture some sweet moments in between. But you know what? My goal is to capture images that express you. So why wouldn't I want to get all of the giggles and laughs possible?
We started out in their bedroom, which was cozy and warm with big fluffy blankets, tons of pillows, and these tungsten string lights. The perfect location to capture these more heartfelt poses.
In the Kitchen
When brainstorming about what we could do that would be unique to them, I'd recalled seeing Mik post about how her and Matt were making a bunch of homemade foods, from home sauces, fancy dishes, and even homemade bread! Naturally, I asked if we could photograph them making the messiest thing possible 😂 They jumped at the idea and we went for it!
I love how all of these turned out. You can really see their personalities shining through. The dorky, the serious, and the silly. Matt even gave me a basic tutorial on how to make bread and taught me about the different types of flour he had and when/why to use them. So cool!
Also can we just appreciate how much teal blue is in their kitchen...and her hair?!
In the Backyard
Most of my clients prefer to do outdoor maternity photos. The draw of a beautiful beach background or large quiet field is gorgeous. I totally get it. But there's also something special about doing photos in your own home.
Mik and Matt love any reason to celebrate. They believe that there's so much hardship and sadness in the world so they take any reason to celebrate and run with it. While their beer-themed gender reveal party was a huge hit, unfortunately their baby shower was canceled due to the covid-19 pandemic. Being the responsible and caring people they are, they canceled their baby shower for the safety of their friends and family (this was before the quarantine was active).
Baby showers are a huge time to celebrate the bringing of new life into this world and a wonderful time to celebrate, and it was canceled. Not only that, but they were also scheduled to move at the end of the month. With the knowledge of their move, I knew that it would be special to capture a few photos in their backyard where many parties and celebrations had occurred. Photos that would hopefully help bring back memories of all of the great times they'd had there.
So we popped back there and snagged a few shots and I'm thrilled with how they came out. Mik and Matt are a truly unique couple and I'm so excited for the baby boy they're going to be bringing into this world. Love you guys! Stay safe and I'll see you on the other side 😎 Can't wait to meet baby "A"!
Photos on TV!
Mik was interviewed on KION about being an expectant mother during a pandemic and I was honored when she told me that she used one of MY photos.
