It All Started With a Common Love Of Seinfeld
When Jonathan + Kate originally inquired, their first email reply ended with "P.S. We're huge Seinfeld fans. To give an example of our fanaticism, we're flying to New York for a weekend in August to go to THIS." Oh my gosh they actually read my bio on my website! I immediately got so excited, nobody ever reads my bio! I don't think I could have responded any quicker than I did. I knew this couple was definitely my vibe, so we setup a time for a Zoom consultation and, just as we'd thought, it was a perfect match and they booked me as their Wedding Photographer!
Next thing I booked was my flight to NYC because I immediately grabbed tickets to the "Summer of George" because I, too, needed to be there.
From San Jose to New York City
Even though we live in the same part of California, the first time we met in person was actually at the "Summer of George" event at the Brooklyn Cyclones game! It was so much fun and very rowdy. They had all sorts of Seinfeld themed foods, there was Seinfeld trivia throughout the game, about half of the stadium was dressed as their favorite characters, the real J. Peterman (John O'Hurley) threw the first pitch, and there was an Elaine Benes dance off at the very end of the game.
These two are hardcore. They literally flew in that morning, just for the game, and were flying out the next morning. Their trip wasn't even a full 24 hours! I'm so grateful they told me about this event (I wouldn't have even known it existed if it weren't for them) and that we got to meet up and experience it together.
We ended the night "voting" for who was the best Elaine Benes Dance Impersonator and let me tell you...the fans were not playing. If you sucked, you sucked and they boo'd from the deepest parts of their souls. Kid participating for fun? Didn't make a difference. If you were not nailing Elaine's dance, you got boo'd 😂
A Coffee Shop, Cute Alleyways, the Fire Station, and Rustic Stairways...
Now to their Engagement Session!
They wanted a more urban setting. They liked the idea of coffee shops, rustic buildings, alleyways, and exploring a town, so we decided to do a walkabout around Downtown Carmel and capture them naturally as things popped out to us. I love this style of session because my couples get so excited when they see little spots that jump out to them / they think are cool. So we go with the flow and did just that!
We started out with some gorgeous buildings, walked past a gorgeous mural by the super talented Marie Clare, ran in front of the fire station where a sweetheart fire fighter opened the garage door so we could get some shots with the firetruck, then we walked through some hidden alleyways, enjoyed a cup of coffee on a cute terrace, and then finished the day exploring more little courtyards off the beaten path.
It was like we were documenting what it's like to be on a cutie little date with them and was the sweetest day ever!
